Delete forward and backward

April 24th, 2008 by santana | 1 Comment »

For new Mac users or we call them the switcher, the ‘Delete’ key is associated with the ‘Backspace’ and there is no Delete forward key in Mac while there is one in PC. In Mac, to delete backward, just hit the ‘Delete key’, while deleting forward, just press ‘fn’ + ‘Delete’ keys.

There are more while you’re at it. Try pressing
1. ‘Control + a’ to move the cursor to the beginning of the sentence
2. ‘Control + e’ to move the cursor at the end of the sentence
3. ‘Control + d’ to delete forward (same as ‘fn + delete’)
4. ‘Control + k’ to delete the sentence start from the beginning to the end of the sentence.
5. ‘Control + o’ to insert a new paragraph, just like Return
6. ‘Control + t’ to transport one letter to the right
7. ‘Option + delete’ to delete one word to the left. This is very handy when you are typing the word and has the typo in it.

Does UNIX ring you a bell? :)

April 23rd, 2008 by santana | No Comments »

The easiest and simpliest way to add contact to your address book from your Mail.app is by:
1. Put your cursor on the address (anywhere in the body of the message whenever there is an address)
2. Right click it and select ‘Create new contact…’

Leopard is the most advance operating system with simplicity :)

Since your are on this topic, you could also select ‘Show map’ to see it on Google Map. Or just want to create a new todo? Simply select ‘New todo’

Use search form in System Preference

April 22nd, 2008 by santana | No Comments »

The System Preference in Mac OS X has a very neat feature. While you are at System Preference, the search form is activated and ready to receive any keyword from you.

If you are going to edit or see the configuration of your TCP/IP, just type tcp, and the ‘Network’ icon wil be highlighted. Or try ‘Currency’ to set your local currency. Give it a try…

Try to use this powerful search engine anywhere in your Mac and you’ll love your mac even more.

Private browsing in Safari

April 22nd, 2008 by santana | No Comments »

Sometimes you want to be very private on your own Mac when browsing the internet using Safari. All the data in history, cache, cookies will not be saved. Actually this is very handy when you are using friend’s computer or public computer.

What you have to do is just click the Safari menu and choose Private Browsing, the popup dialog box will show up confirming that you want to use this feature. Just click OK and proceed with the browsing.

Do more with Spotlight

April 21st, 2008 by santana | 1 Comment »

Most people know Spotlight only to search document or application by its name. But there are a lot more than that. Spotlight can do math calculation. Just type for example 4*5, the result result will automatically appear on the fly. Or try typing the word alabaster, the dictionary will show you its meaning on the fly. You can then press enter to see more result from the dictionary.

More, you can also search any image that has 800 pixel in width. Just type width:800, for example. Or to see only the gif image that has 800 pixel, just type gif width:800

You can also combine the +, - “” signs, just like when you do in google :)

Smultron a free text editor for Leopard

April 18th, 2008 by santana | 1 Comment »

Smultron is a free text editor for Leopard which has the ability to do like web programming, script editing, making a to do list and so on. It is easy to program with Smultron as it colors the content in different colours depending on what the code does. And you also have many ways to search for words and line numbers to help finding the code you are looking for. You can also split the window in two to display two parts of the same document or to compare two different documents side by side.

You can also preview HTML-files directly in Smultron and save snippets of text and insert them simply with a shortcut. And if you don’t want to be disturbed by other applications or the desktop you can let Smultron cover the whole screen to let you concentrate on your work.

For all international users there is full support for all encodings and it is translated into many languages so you can use it in your own native tongue.

Visit their website for more information: http://smultron.sourceforge.net
